Citizenship Education: School, Family & the Cameroonian State

This course delivers the complete Form 3 Citizenship Education programme as prescribed by Cameroon's Ministry of Secondary Education, following the official Citizenship Education Syllabus for Forms 3, 4 and 5. It is built around three compulsory modules that guide students from their immediate environment outward to the structure of the Cameroonian state.

Students begin with The School Environment, exploring their role and responsibilities as students, road safety on the way to school, the rights and duties of learners, the school administration, and how to handle social ills like bullying and vandalism within school life. The course then moves to The Family and its Extension within its Natural Environment, covering the structure and protection of the family, life in villages, towns and cities, the role of local councils, and the individual's responsibility in protecting the natural environment. Finally, students study The Administrative Organisation of Cameroon, learning the country's administrative units (Subdivisions, Divisions, Regions), the roles of key officials such as the Divisional Officer, Senior Divisional Officer, and Governor, and the principles of decentralisation, devolution, and good governance.

Each module follows the Competency-Based Approach (CBA) used in Cameroonian classrooms, grounding lessons in real-life situations — from denouncing wrongdoing and participating in community life to understanding how the Cameroonian state is organized. This course helps Form 3 students build the civic knowledge and values (respect, patriotism, transparency, discipline) essential for responsible citizenship, and prepares them for the more advanced political and economic topics covered in Form 4 and Form 5.
