À propos de ce cours
This course delivers the complete Upper Sixth English Language programme as prescribed by the Cameroon GCE Board's official Advanced Level English Language Syllabus (Subject 730), which marks the end of secondary general education and is examined through both continuous assessment and a written exam.
The course is built around the exam's actual structure. Paper 1 (1 hour 30 minutes, multiple choice) covers Reading Comprehension — identifying main ideas, writer's attitude, inference, discourse markers, and cohesive devices — Grammar — parts of speech, tenses, verbals, clauses, word order, and punctuation — and Vocabulary — word choice, connotation, affixes, synonyms/antonyms, and idiomatic expressions. Paper 2 (2 hours 30 minutes) covers Summary and Text Reconstruction across text types like formal/informal letters, reports, speeches, and minutes; Composition — narrative, descriptive, expository, discursive, and argumentative writing of at least 450 words; and the Prescribed Texts component, which requires close analysis of set literary works, including Lake God by Bole Butake, alongside prescribed collections of essays, poems, and short stories.
The course also prepares students for the School-Based Projects and Spoken English component, assessed through continuous assessment and an oral test — covering debates, interviews, group productions like sketches and plays, editing, and reporting on real events — building the fluency, pronunciation, and audience awareness the syllabus requires.
This course is designed to take Upper Sixth students, who have already completed Ordinary Level English, through focused, exam-aligned practice across every component of the GCE A-Level English Language paper.
