À propos de ce cours
Form 1 is the biggest jump most Cameroonian students make in their school life so far — from one familiar primary school classroom to a much larger secondary school, multiple teachers, a full subject timetable, and often new classmates from different backgrounds. This course gives Form 1 students structured support through that transition.
Guidance and school psychology support is meant to accompany learners throughout their schooling under Cameroon's 1998 Education Orientation Law, delivered through trained Guidance Counsellors under MINESEC's Directorate of Guidance Counselling, School Life and Educational Assistance (DOVAS). In practice, with a national counsellor-to-student ratio far short of target, many students go through their first, most disorienting year of secondary school without ever speaking to a counsellor. This course is built to help close that gap right from the start.
Students will work through practical adjustment skills — understanding how secondary school works differently from primary school, organizing a multi-subject timetable, and building study habits that actually stick; making friends and handling new social dynamics, including how to recognize and respond to bullying; discovering personal strengths and interests early, without the pressure of making big decisions yet; and knowing where to turn when something feels overwhelming, including the Ministry's free guidance hotline. The course also introduces age-appropriate self-awareness and responsible decision-making, laying groundwork that later guidance (on subject choices in Form 3, and career/university decisions in Upper Sixth) will build on.
Please note: Guidance and Counselling is not an examinable GCE subject and does not have a published MINESEC teaching syllabus like History, Geography, or French. This is a support course designed to complement a student's academic subjects and the guidance services available through their school.
