À propos de ce cours
Physical Education and Sports (PES) is recognized in Cameroon's national curriculum framework as one of the core skills every learner should develop — the practice of physical, sports, and artistic activities — but in the Anglophone GCE subsystem, it is not currently an examinable subject at either Ordinary Level or Advanced Level. That's a real gap researchers and education policy papers have flagged: Cameroon's Francophone subsystem requires physical education for the Baccalauréat, while Anglophone students sitting the GCE have no equivalent formal assessment, even though a competency-based PES syllabus already exists for the First Cycle (Forms 1–5).
This course brings that same competency-based approach to Upper Sixth, where physical activity often disappears entirely from a student's timetable under exam pressure. It's built to develop motor skills, teamwork, fitness, and long-term health habits — exactly what the national PES framework aims for — while fitting realistically into the final, most demanding year of secondary school.
Students will work through core fitness and conditioning appropriate for their age group, individual and team sports fundamentals (football, handball, volleyball, athletics, and similar activities commonly taught in Cameroonian secondary schools), basic rules and officiating for major sports, and health education topics directly relevant to exam-year students — sleep, nutrition, stress management through physical activity, and avoiding the sedentary habits that heavy revision schedules tend to create. The course is designed as a practical complement to a student's academic subjects, not a replacement for a certified PE teacher or supervised sports training.
Please note: PES is not currently an examinable GCE Advanced Level subject in Cameroon's Anglophone system and has no published Ministry syllabus for Upper Sixth. This course is a wellness and skills-based enrichment course, built around the national PES competency framework used at the First Cycle level.
