Form 3 Geography: The Earth, Its Landforms & Climate

This course delivers the complete Form 3 Geography programme as prescribed by Cameroon's Ministry of Secondary Education, following the official Geography Syllabus for Forms 3, 4 and 5. Form 3 is the foundation year of physical geography, organised into three compulsory modules.

Students begin with Understanding and Adapting to Astronomical Relations of the Earth in the Universe (21 periods) — the solar system, the shape and size of the Earth, latitude and longitude, great circles, local and standard time, time zones, the International Date Line, and the rotation and revolution of the Earth with their effects on day, night, seasons, and tides.

The largest module, Understanding Processes Operating in Nature and Protection from Environmental Hazards (60 periods), covers the internal structure of the Earth, rocks and the rock cycle, continental drift and plate tectonics, volcanoes and their intrusive and extrusive features, folding, faulting and earthquakes — including their hazards and mitigation measures. It then moves into denudation: weathering (physical, chemical, biological), erosion and deposition, limestone/karst landscapes, the work of rivers through their upper, middle and lower courses, wave action along coasts, hot desert wind action, and glaciation — each paired with how these processes affect people as both resources and hazards.

The final module, Understanding Weather and Climate; and Adaptation to Climatic Excesses (18 periods), covers the atmosphere, weather elements and instruments, condensation and precipitation, pressure belts and winds, the hydrological cycle, and hydro-climatic hazards including global warming, floods, droughts, desertification, and water scarcity.

Throughout, the course follows the syllabus's competency-based approach, with practical work — locating places on maps, calculating time and dates, and field observation of local landscapes — so students connect geography to their own environment in Cameroon.
