À propos de ce cours
This course delivers Lower Sixth Geology content built from the official Cameroon GCE Advanced Level Geology Syllabus (Subject 0755), part of the Cameroon GCE Board's Biology–Chemistry–Geology (BCG) science combination. Content areas confirmed through the Board's own past examination papers include Crystallography, Mineralogy, Petrology, Structural Geology, Stratigraphy, Palaeontology, Seismology, and Weathering — the core branches of Geology examined across the exam's three papers.
As the first year of the two-year A-Level programme, this course builds the foundational branches Lower Sixth students need before more advanced work: Crystallography and Mineralogy — crystal systems, crystal faces and forms, and the properties (like cleavage and fracture) used to identify minerals; Petrology — the classification and description of rocks by grain size, colour, mineral content, and structure, confirmed by past exam questions on basalts and other igneous rocks; Structural Geology — reading geological features like folds and fold axes from maps; and an introduction to Stratigraphy, Palaeontology, and Seismology — the study of rock layers and fossils, and the properties of earthquakes, including magnitude, epicentre, and seismic wave behaviour. Weathering processes, which link geology to surface change over time, are introduced alongside these foundational topics.
This foundation is what Upper Sixth later builds on toward more advanced petrology (including detailed igneous rock chemistry), economic geology, and a deeper focus on the geology of Cameroon itself, including its volcanic features along the Cameroon Line. This course is built for Lower Sixth students in the Biology–Chemistry–Geology stream starting the two-year GCE Advanced Level Geology programme, laying the groundwork for the GCE Advanced Level examination.
