Guidance and Counselling – Form 3

Form 3 is the year Cameroonian students begin the three-year Ordinary Level cycle, and the choices made now shape which subjects they carry into Form 4, Form 5, and the GCE. This course gives students the guidance and self-knowledge to make those choices well.

Under Cameroon's 1998 Education Orientation Law, guidance and school psychology activities are meant to accompany a learner at every level of schooling. In practice, many students never get sustained one-on-one time with a counsellor — the Ministry's own Directorate of School Guidance and Welfare has noted that with around 2,500 counsellors nationally, the target of one counsellor for every 300 students remains far off. This course is designed to help fill that gap, giving Form 3 students structured guidance they can work through at their own pace.

Students will learn how to understand their own strengths, interests, and aptitudes; how to build effective study habits, manage time across a heavy subject load, and prepare for continuous assessment; how subject combinations in Form 4 and Form 5 open or close doors to particular careers; and what training and career paths exist in Cameroon, including technical and vocational routes. The course also covers personal and social topics relevant to adolescence — managing pressure, making responsible decisions, dealing with peer influence, and knowing when and where to seek help, including the Ministry's free guidance hotline.

Please note: Guidance and Counselling is not an examinable GCE subject and does not have a published MINESEC teaching syllabus like Biology, Chemistry, or Geography. This is a support course designed to complement a student's academic subjects and the guidance services offered in their school.
