À propos de ce cours
This course delivers Lower Sixth Philosophy content built from the Cameroon GCE Board's official Advanced Level Philosophy Syllabus (Subject 790). The syllabus is designed to introduce learners to critical reflection across five areas of philosophical inquiry: Logic, History of Western Philosophy, African Philosophy, Textual Analysis, and Philosophical Problems — developing the techniques of critical thinking and judgment, open discussion, reasoned debate, and objectivity that come with philosophical training.
As the first year of the two-year A-Level programme, this course builds the foundational areas of the syllabus: Logic, developing the tools of valid reasoning, argument structure, and identifying fallacies that underpin all later philosophical work; the History of Western Philosophy, introducing the major thinkers and movements that shaped Western philosophical thought; and African Philosophy, examining philosophical traditions, thought systems, and debates rooted in the African context. Together, these give Lower Sixth students the conceptual toolkit and historical grounding that Upper Sixth then extends into deeper Textual Analysis and Philosophical Problems.
Throughout, the course follows the syllabus's core aim: to initiate and sensitize learners to develop a critical and reflective mind, and to recognize, evaluate, and distill arguments — skills that apply far beyond the Philosophy paper itself. This course is built for Lower Sixth students starting the two-year GCE Advanced Level Philosophy programme, laying the groundwork for the GCE Advanced Level examination.
